Rhys leads the Engineering Team, focusing on the rooftop electrical design of commercial and agricultural solar PV projects. He joined UGE in 2013, coming from HH Angus & Associates Limited where he focused on the design of raised floor computer environments and data centers, with project experience in these areas. Prior to 2011, Rhys gained experience as a Distribution Engineer at Guelph Hydro, managing Distributed Generation connections and was part of a team managing the construction of a new Transmission Station. Rhys graduated from the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at Ryerson University. During his time there, Rhys completed an 8 month Fellowship Program at Hydro One and during his final term, co-authored an IEEE Conference paper on a multi-level grid connection topology for large-scale solar farms.
Manager, Engineering & Operations
Before the April 2017 acquisition of Carmanah’s EPC Business, Jonathan had been with Carmanah since 2007. Jonathan is the Manager of Engineering and Operations for the current Downtown office. He has been the lead or supervising design engineer on all of Carmanah’s projects completed under the RESOP and FIT program until 2016 and has been managing the operations and engineering since spring of 2016. As one of the most experienced and reputable PV Engineers in the industry Jonathan understands the nuances of designing, locating, and connecting PV systems. His relationships with ESA and a wide range of LDCs has served UGE and its clients extremely effectively.
Senior Manager, Engineering
David assists in leading the Engineering Team, focusing on the rooftop electrical design of commercial and agricultural solar PV projects. David joined UGE in 2011 and is responsible for the complete electrical design and review of all major client projects, including relations between the client and all stakeholders. David is an industry expert and proven adviser to the solar energy industry in Ontario. Prior to joining UGE, David had been involved in testing the performance of catalysts for nuclear reactors and systems programming at Flynn Canada. David graduated from the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at University of Toronto. During his time there, he worked as a co-op for Rack Net-Works, a civil engineering firm developing mobile applications.
Miheer is a lead engineer at UGE working closely with the design team. He joined the UGE team during the acquisition of the Carmanah Solar Power Corp (CSPC) business in 2017. Since joining CSPC and the launch of Ontario’s Feed-in-Tariff program in 2009, he has been involved in over 150 commercial rooftop solar projects. Miheer is also a NABCEP certified PV Installation Professional and Professional Engineer. Prior to moving to Toronto in 2008, he completed his B.S. in Electrical Engineering at Purdue University and worked as an MEP Engineer at the Dubai Mall Project. Miheer also has a Masters of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto.
Victor is a member of the Engineering Team, focusing on the utility-scale electrical design of ground-mount solar PV projects. Victor joined UGE in 2012 after graduating from the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Through their co-op program, he brings experience as an Electrical Engineering Assistant at Walterfedy, and was part of the electrical engineering services team focusing in commercial and industrial building power system upgrades and renovations. He also brings field inspection and estimation experience in real estate developments at Minto, where he was part of the mechanical and electrical engineering team.
Ryan is a member of the Engineering Team, focusing on the electrical design for commercial and agricultural rooftop, as well as utility-scale ground mount solar PV projects. Ryan joined UGE in 2017, having spent the previous 7 years as an engineering consultant in building design at HH Angus & Associates Limited. Ryan’s prior experience is in the capacity of lead design engineer and project manager for mission critical environments (power distribution, emergency systems and building design), and specialty subway transit projects for TTC and Metrolinx. Ryan graduated from the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at Ryerson University. During his time there, he completed an 8 month Fellowship Program at Hydro One. During his final term, Ryan co-authored an IEEE Conference paper on a multi-level grid connection topology for large-scale solar farms.
Husam is a member of the Engineering Team, focusing on the electrical design of utility-scale ground-mount and commercial scale rooftop solar PV projects. Husam joined UGE in 2013 after receiving his Masters of Engineering Degree (M.Eng) in Energy Systems from the University of Toronto. Prior to entering the M.Eng program, Husam completed his undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering from the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo. While completing his M.Eng at the University of Toronto, Husam gained extensive experience in research and development within solar PV applications. Most notably, Husam led the design, build, and troubleshooting of a state-of-the-art micro-inverter for the application of creating a micro-grid, with a short-term storage solution, using Solar PV as the only source of generation.
Prior to his M.Eng, Husam held various co-op positions, with a multitude of companies, while studying at the University of Waterloo. In 2011, Husam worked with Suncor Energy as an Electrical Engineering Assistant. In this role he was part of the electrical engineering site maintenance team, aiding in root cause analysis of industrial equipment failures, providing value-engineered recommendations and solutions. Husam has also gained electrical design experience from working as Junior Electrical Engineer at MCW Consultants, a fully integrated mechanical and electrical consulting engineering services company.
