UGE Earth Week 2012 - Day 4 (Only One Bag of Trash the Entire Day)
The U.S. is the #1 trash-producing country in the world at 1,609 pounds per person per year. This means that 5% of the world's people generate 40% of the world's waste.
On the fourth day of our Earth Day festivities, the UGE office is going to limit our office-wide waste to one bag of trash the entire day! Roughly 90% of landfill contents are recyclable. Equipped with this knowledge, we're going to limit the amount of our waste that goes into the bin.
Paper bags, plastic bags, juice containers, bottles and cans can all be recycled. So drop these in the appropriate bin, and remember to compress your trash before tossing to take up less space. And the easiest thing to do is bring less trash in the first place! Bring reusable containers for lunch whenever possible and continue the coffee cup and reusable bage trend from earlier in the week!
